Joining SLUG

Interested in joining SLUG?

SLUG provides excellent opportunities for social and professional networking, and is a great way to build your skills and learn about the world of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).

Membership is not compulsory. Membership fees allow us to fund meetings and other activities, but you do not need to be a member to attend any SLUG event. The prime benefit of membership is having your vote count at our Annual General Meeting, held during the March monthly meeting.

Individual Membership

Membership is currently only $25 p.a., or $15 p.a. for students, unemployed people and healthcare card holders (does not include GST, as we are not required to pay it) and entitles you to free or ultra low cost entry to all SLUG activities. Voting rights under the SLUG Inc. articles of association are only granted to current financial members.

To join, simply attend any SLUG monthly meeting or SLUG sponsored event and provide your name and email address to the SLUG representative — Cash or Cheque only. On the other hand if you wish to join and are currently unable to attend, simply send your name, address, phone number, email address and cheque to the SLUG Treasurer. Contact the Treasurer if you wish to pay by direct deposit or other means.

You might also wish to join Linux Australia, the umbrella organisation for the Australian FOSS community. Membership is easy, and it costs nothing!

Corporate Participation

As a community and users group, SLUG does not have corporate memberships. SLUG members hail from a diverse range of industries and companies, and we welcome individuals to join. Open Source Industry Australia (OSIA) provides support and resources for companies that are interested in Linux, free and open source software.

If you would still like to help SLUG as a company, here are some ideas:

  • Encourage your employees to join SLUG individually. Offer to pay for their memberships.
  • Consider sponsoring or donating to SLUG. This allows us to cover our costs, provide services and host events.

Please get in touch with us if you would like to assist.
