General Talk
James Purser:  'Thinkubating, Or How Local Government Learnt To Love Plone'

Some time ago I was approached to put together a quick and easy to use
collaboration platform. I examined the options and Plone filled all the
requirements. In this talk I'll go through the reasons why and give a
couple of examples of how I am using Plone to support Local Government.

In-Depth Talk
Jeff Waugh: Cranking WordPress to Eleven

Inside the dinky little ukelele heart of WordPress is a towering Marshall stack of grunty publishing muscle just itching to escape. Jeff will return to Sin City to take you behind the scenes of a large WordPress deployment — the all-new Crikey website — and show you heaps of stuff you can use on your own site, including: Sweet plugins, awesome theme frameworks, squeezing WordPress and your web stack for performance (much of which should be of interest to web developers of any platform), and what you can look forward to in WordPress 2.8.

SLUGlets

General discussion and Q&A about Linux, free software and open source.

Meeting Schedule

See here for an explanation of the segments.

  • 18.15: Open Doors

  • 18.45: General Talk
  • 19.30: Intermission
  • 19.45: Split into two groups for:

    • SLUGlets
  • 20.30: Dinner

Dinner is at Golden Harbour Restaurant, in Chinatown. We will be having
the $24 Banquet, but we will be collecting $25 per head for ease of
accounting and to cover a tip. We will be taking numbers during the
break to confirm the reservation size. If you have any particular
dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian), or if you would prefer to order
separately, let us know beforehand. Dinner is a great way to socialise
and learn in a relaxed atmosphere :)

We hope to see you there!
